NORWICH, ON– Norwich World Round-UP (NWR), local event and community fundraiser,
supported by both Norwich Optimist Club and Norpac Beef, coming this August 27th, 28th & 29th 2010. Festivities to take place once again at the historic Vankerrebroeck Ranch - Hwy 59 South, Norwich, Ontario.

This FULL western program now includes Friday night entertainment. Activities are for both rural and urban families, expecting to draw thousands of families from Oxford County and surrounding communities. “Our mandate is to make the event fresh and entertaining for the entire family unit” says Underhill. “A western wonderland of sorts”.

Not only does this event support the local community, but also pays tribute to the Vankerrebroecks. In August 2002, the Vankerrebroeck Ranch experienced a catastrophic fire in which 300 cattle escaped into the surrounding countryside. The barn was burnt to the ground, but the community of Norwich and surrounding towns united to help the Vankerrebroeck family. One individual in particular, Richard Heleniak of Norwich Packers, led the charge by gathering more than 15 cowboys to lasso the cattle and return them to temporary penning. The round-up took more than 40 days with onlookers lined up in cars along Hwy 59. After the dust settled, Gilbert Vankerrebroeck, Richard Heleniak and the local Lions Club decided to put on a community rodeo for families in Norwich and beyond. Today the legend, and memories, still evident through the efforts of Jordon Underhill, Matthew Heleniak and team as we ‘saddle up’ for yet another year.

Friday night introduces such thrills and excitement as the: Battle of the Air Bands and Tug O War. If you are interested in signing up for either, please call the NWR hotline 519-532-NWR1. Prizes are awarded for both. Saturday night features: The WILD WEST SHOW with Tom Bishop and gang. Founded in 1912, this 3rd generation of entertainers have performed in events, theatre and movie production throughout North America. RAW HIDE RODEO, exciting new line up including barrel racing show down; AGILITY
DOG, presented by Canadian Canine College. SOLTRA LAWNMOWER RACING, top level racing excitement. ‘The Meat Wagon Smoke off’ invites all passionate meat smokers BBQ’ers to join. Simply bring your smoker (either homemade or store bought) and the meat is supplied. Contestants are judged by the attendees and a prize is awarded to the winner. Sunday brings us: Shaw’s ‘Sunday Ice Cream
Sundae’ buffet. A portion of the proceeds going directly to support local youth sports teams.

Families and children can experience fun filled days at the KIDZ CORRAL, both Saturday and Sunday. Fun filled balloon tying, face painting and massive jumping castles. Local fire fighters will be back this year attending with a fire truck and interacting with kids.

With assistance from the Optimist Club, the Norpac Community Dinner and Dance will be held on Saturday Aug 28th, commencing at 5pm. Featured live bands are: The River Junction Band and The Red Party Pirates. Bull riding finals and Wild West show commence at 7:00pm, following the famous steak dinner.
